Over the knee boots have gotten kind of a bad rep over the years. Personally, I love them, and I'm happy to see they're quickly becoming a big winter trend again, but I'll admit, they are challenging. On models they look effortlessly and easy to pull off. In real life, they're a little trickier to wear — they make a BIG statement, they remind us of Pretty Woman, and don't always agree with our wardrobe or event. But that doesn't mean they're not worth a try :)
I've made a case for the over-the-knee boots, and I want to highly encourage you to step up your footwear game. Scroll through and find out!
For Tall Girls: Over-the-knee boots present less of a challenge with long legs, though if you'd rather not draw attention to your height, this probably isn't the look for you. (I know this is not my case) They highlight your legs, though you can temper down their WOOWW! factor without a heel and black leggings. Opt for an over-sized effortless sweater dress that hits right at the thigh or longer. The result is cool and takes on the trend that's a perfect fit for your frame.
For Petites: Create a long, lean leg line with a pair of dark denim/leggings in a similar tone as the boots or a mini-skirt. As for the top, stick to long sweaters or blouses that hit below the hip. You can also add a jacket to give it a street-style-star approved finish.
TIP: An easy way to wear these statement-making boots without making the look too sexy is by keeping the outfit casual. Sweaters and over-sized dresses are perfect options!
Want to wear them to the office?
Just be sure to keep your upper thighs covered — that little bit of skin can be the big difference between office hours and after hours. Also, keep the top half more classic with a button-down shirt, a blazer, or a turtleneck. The boots will bring plenty of personality to the look all on their own.
